DA-Group and RealProgress have modernized Inlandsbanan’s rolling stock with a new modular Passenger Information System. The project was completed in just five months through close cooperation.
DA-Group has been involved in modernizing the Lint41 diesel multiple-unit rolling stock of Swedish Inlandsbanan as part of a broad development project together with RealProgress. In February 2026, the rolling stock received official approval for commercial operation after several years of development work. The project demonstrates that even modernized rolling stock can meet the future requirements of rail transport.
Modern technology for future rail requirements
At the core of the project was the implementation of a modern Passenger Information System (PIS) in which DA-Group played a significant role together with its RealProgress partner. DA-Group was responsible for the passenger information system, delivering HMI, internal and external displays which provide passengers with real-time information and make travel smoother and more pleasant. The solution was implemented from the ground up through close collaboration between DA-Group’s hardware, software, and mechanical engineering teams.
The project delivered a modern modular PIS system that meets current TSI requirements and is designed to be scalable for future needs. The system supports 5G, WiFi, and Train-to-Wayside communication, improving both passenger information visibility and operational flexibility in Inlandsbanan’s demanding operating conditions.
“We did not accept that something was impossible”
The project was challenging because the schedule was tight and the technical challenges were numerous. The solution was taken from design to deployment and validated for operational use in just five months, an exceptionally fast timeline in rail industry projects.
RealProgress CEO Magnus Wilstam summarized the collaboration well: “We did not accept that something was impossible. Instead, we created a method and a technical platform that proves it.”
The Lint41 project demonstrates that used rail rolling stock can be modernized efficiently and cost-effectively. At the same time, it serves as an example of a new operating model in rail development projects, emphasizing agility, modularity, and close cooperation between stakeholders.
